I’m pleased to announce that I am the Ceramic Artist in Residence at the Visual Arts Centre for Winter/Spring 2018. There I will be creating a commisioned mosaic work, and work that is a combination hand-building and throwing to produce sculptural raku.
The mural project is a continuation of my work that is themed around living with HIV. I am exploring the ideas of body, health and stigma in the form of ceramic murals. These pieces have the theme of “living with HIV/AIDS today,” a commision for ViiV Healthcare with TANK and LNDMRK marketing. Once completed the work will be donated to one of five selected HIV/AIDS service organizations in Canada.
To complement this more focused work, I will be experimenting with different larger hand-built and thrown forms for raku firing. This work is a continuation of my work using a combination of wheel and hand-building to produce sculptural work for raku firing. The approach to this work is thru play, exploration, and discovery. Having combined wheel throwing and hand-building during my ceramics training and my first year as a production potter, now I wish to experiment more fully with form, texture and surface.
